Drawings from the Surface of Mars Dave Redfern — Feb 5, 2007 |
page 1 of 10 |
Dave Redfern is a long-time and enthusiastic member of the Flamsteed, and teaches Art and Media at Croydon College. Dave has his own studio at Childers Street, Deptford. Dave finds great inspiration for his own works in astronomical images and concepts. In 2003-4 he executed a series of works called ‘Drawings from the Surface of Mars’ and he shared with us the sources of his ideas. He called the series ‘Drawings...’ not because they’re works in pencil or line, but because they’re all in black & white — using charcoal, pencil, ink, and black & white paint. Some are collages (‘collages’ from the French ‘colle’ — ‘to glue’, coined from the works of Picasso). Let’s let the work speak for itself. The works each appear on the following pages. The sources of Dave’s inspiration are shown below the final work on each page. |
